This project was started for providing support to
Anganwadi teachers and Helpers to improve the quality of
preprimary education in Anganwadi for the children in the age
group 3-6 years. This is an initiative of Forbes Marshall
Company –social welfare group. The work with Anganwadi
teachers went on well for 3 years in 30 Anganwadis .However it
had to be discontinued. Now similar work is being carried out
in the communities independently through this project. The
program can be divided into 3 parts.
The main objectives of SCOPE are
- Home lending Library in communities: Teachers go in
the communities and distribute books to children. They also
conduct reading and storytelling sessions.
- Support classes: The children in communities who are
admitted in first standard need some educational support, so
that they do not drop out of schools. These classes are run
with a view to support these children in their school
studies. These classes are conducted in the first term i.e.
June to October every year.
- Bridge classes:The children who will be going in
first standard also need some pre-school preparation. Through
Bridge classes this need of the community children is
satisfied. These classes are conducted in the second term of
the academic year i.e. November to March every year.
Annually around 600 children get the benefit of this
library, whereas 250 to 300 children get benefit of support
and bridge classes, in this SCOPE project.
