Swadhar IDWC, Institute for Development of Women & Children

There is no tool for development, that is more effective than the empowerment of women. Because she is the full circle. Within her is the power to create, to nurture and to transform. Empowering her means progress for all. It means empowering generations.

Swadhar was founded on these beliefs, in Mumbai, in order to help women in distress and come out of it, empowered. After twelve years of successfully working in Mumbai, Swadhar started its work in Pune too.

In the year 1995, Prof. Meenakshi Apte along with Mrs. Sulabha Joshi and Mrs. Suchitra Date, laid the stone of Swadhar IDWC (Institute for Development of Women and Children) in Pune - an organisation which was to now work for the development of not just underprivileged women, but children too.

Swadhar IDWC was founded, and has been developed over the years, by a team of professionally qualified women volunteers. It mainly works towards
1) empowering women,
2) providing support to children in need of protection and survival, and
3) the overall development of children, especially the girl child.
