This programme was started with the aim of providing opportunities to adolescent girls and women from low income groups to learn life skills, vocational skills, develop their personality and become economically independent and self-reliant. Efforts are also made to work for the transformation of social and cultural values that shackle and constrict the girl child and mould her into stereotypical roles. Our strategy has been three pronged:
1. Personality Development Measures
2. Educational Measures
3. Vocational Education
The skills acquired by the adolescent girls during this course are Rangoli, Mehendi, hand embroidery, knitting, crochet, Warli painting,
cold ceramic , decorative flowers, lamp (panati) painting and cooking.
Vocational training is provided in the trades of Tailoring, Beautician’s primary course, making paper bags, mobile pouches, mirror bags, greeting cards, gift boxes, jewellery, jardozi work and Bandhni printing.
Lectures and discussions are organized on topics related to Personality Development, Awareness Generation, Sex Education, Significance of Nutrition in regular diet, common non-communicable diseases and waste management. Information about post, banking, saving schemes is also provided along with the knowledge about monthly home budget, costing of various products made for sale .
Achievements:
In the year 2007-08, 8 students from Phulora classes secured employment at various places. 6 young women from the class have started tailoring work on their own and have become earning members of their families. Some more students are preparing some handicraft products like mirror bags, jardozi, stitching and are earning on a small scale.
